How to make fingerless gloves – Nalbinding tutorial part 2!

So now you know how to make your first row of nalbinding, you might want to know how to make something with it. Here is a tutorial to nalbind fingerless gloves for the cold nights of Viking shows. It’s an easy project to start nalbinding.

What you need is a row of nalbinding that is long enough to go around your hand. If you do not remember how to do the Oslo stitch you can have a look here at the previous tutorial.

When you join the chain be careful to check that it is not twisted. You put your needle through two loops (to be more resistant).

Then it is the same as when you usually do nalbinding: you pass your needle under the top loop and then under the loop that is around your finger and finally under the thread going to the needle.

To nalbind without any increasing or decreasing you take a new loop, then again you go under the top loop and under the loop around the thumb and the thread.

If you want to increase the size of your gloves you pass your needle in the same loop as before.

If you want to decrease the size you put your needle through the next two new loops.

I began these gloves from top to down but you can also begin at the cuff.

When you arrive at the thumb, you are going to nalbind without taking the loops onto the row creating a chain that will go around your thumb (as when you nalbinded your first chain). Then you join the chain taking two loops as you did at the beginning.

Then you go on nalbinding, decreasing regularly the size to follow the shape of your hand. I usually decrease on the sides only to have a better shape. Here is the result! Usually the best is to nalbind the two gloves together so you can remember where you increased or decreased.
